Manali to Lahaul, Himachal Pradesh
Cross from the green meadows of Kullu into the high desert of Lahaul, with a night at Chandratal where road and weather allow.

Hampta Pass is a dramatic crossover trek that takes you from the lush, flower-filled meadows of the Kullu valley, over a high mountain pass, into the stark, moon-like desert landscape of Lahaul, with a night beside the legendary Chandratal Lake to finish.
Drive from Manali to Jobra and begin the trek through pine forests and lush green valleys. Camp at Chika.
Follow the Hampta River through beautiful meadows, waterfalls and rocky terrain. Overnight camp at Balu Ka Ghera.
The main adventure day: ascend to Hampta Pass (~14,100 ft) and cross into the dramatic Lahaul landscape. Descend to Shea Goru for the night.
Trek or drive towards Chatru and continue to the spectacular Chandratal Lake, subject to road and weather conditions. Overnight camping.
Enjoy the morning views of Chandratal, then drive through Lahaul and cross the Atal Tunnel to reach Manali. Trek concludes.
Timings and campsites can change with weather, trail conditions and the pace of the group. Your trek leader makes the final call on the day.
Moderate
Hampta Pass is graded Moderate. The trail involves stream crossings, a steep but short summit push to the pass, and one long trekking day (Balu Ka Ghera to Shea Goru via the pass, roughly 8–10 hours). Prior trekking experience is helpful but not mandatory; a base level of cardiovascular fitness is recommended.
The highest point on this trek is about 14,100 ft. At this height many people feel the thinner air: headaches, poor sleep or loss of appetite are common early signs of altitude sickness. Drink water, walk at a steady pace and tell your trek leader straight away if you feel unwell. The usual first response to worsening symptoms is to stop climbing or descend.
Your trek leader or guide may change the plan, wait out bad weather or turn the group around if conditions or anyone's health make it unsafe to continue. Please tell us about any medical conditions or medication when you enquire, and carry a personal first-aid kit.
The trek is only accessible from June to October, once winter snow on the pass has cleared. July and August coincide with the Kullu valley in full bloom, while September and October offer clearer skies with fewer crowds.

Manali is the base for this trek, reachable by overnight Volvo bus or private cab from Delhi (roughly 12-14 hours), or by flight to Bhuntar Airport (Kullu) followed by a 50-minute drive. From Manali, Go Karavan arranges transport to the Jobra trailhead on Day 1.
